Reaching beyond - backstrap weaving

A short trip through the world of Austronesian & Austro-asiatic backstrap weaving: With this foot loom-type of the Paiwan and Atayal people of Taiwan we catch a short view back into time and the origin of backstrap weaving, where bamboo canes play an important of role in the philosophy of these tribes. Even this kind of bamboo cane looms are more than years old, they are still in action on Taiwan. The cane looms developed to camphor trunk looms, where the nowadays popular box looms derived from.
