Spain: Unemployment tops 4 million as “hunger queues“ continue in Madrid

The number of unemployed in Spain topped four million in February, while thousands wait in ’hunger queues’ to apply for free food as their only option, as footage from Madrid showed on Wednesday. According to the Ministry of Labour, this is the highest unemployment number since 2013 and has been directly linked to restrictions imposed in the wake of the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many businesses have been forced to close due to declining sales.
