Vela Supernova Remnant and Vela X Neutron Star
Over 10,000 years ago the core of a massive star collapsed in one it’s core during a supernova explosion, forming a neutron star, also know as a pulsar. Located near the heart of the Vela Supernova Remnant in the Southern Constellation of Vela. The Vela pulsar or Vela X, is 12 miles wide and rotates approximately once every 89 milliseconds or 11 times per second. It has the third brightest optical component of all known pulsars and the brightest persistent o
