A lagoon in the Argentine southern region of Patagonia has turned pink, allegedly due to pollution.
Striking drone footage shot on Sunday shows the extend of the phenomenon.
Environmentalist and member of the Union of Citizen Assemblies in Chubut, Pablo Palicio Lada, said the pink colour was related to the pollution, stemming from the fishing industry.
“Elements such as sulphite, which is well known in the fishing industry, or some of the preservatives added to some products to strength their colour, because shrimp quickly turns dark, and you could be influencing the colour of this, which is why we are seeing this here,“ he said.
However, he also accused the government of not doing enough to stop companies from polluting the environment.
