The 70-8201, which became the first mass-produced aircraft, made its first flight on Thursday, June 16, 1977. Deployed to the 3rd and 8th Squadrons of the 3rd Air Wing located at Misawa Air Base, and the 6th Squadron of the 8th Air Wing located at Tsuiki Air Base.
This model completed its last flight on March 9, 2006 (Thursday) and passed the baton to the F-2 fighter, which was also developed in Japan.
Up to 77 F-1 aircraft were operated by the Air Self-Defense Force before retirement.
