De Elegasten - Zoveel • TopPop

“Zoveel” van De Elegasten is originally from Joe Dassin, La fleur aux dents (1971). De Elegasten were a Flemish cabaret group active from 1964 to 1976. The group consisted of the three brothers Ivan Poppe, Paul Poppe, and Ray Poppe, Riet Bracke, the wife of the oldest brother Ray, and Herman Van Caekenberghe, the main arranger and composer of the group. Their most famous songs are “Wat Heb je Vandaag op School Geleerd”, “Praten Zingen Dansen” (originally also from Joe Dassin), “Droeve clown”, “Annabel Lee” en “Veronikja”, a song from Cornelis Vreeswijk and one of his biggest hits. The group started their career under the name The Campground Singers. In 1968, they began singing under the Cardinal Records label of Rocco Granata and changed their name to De Elegasten, a reference to the medieval epic poem “Karel ende Elegast.“ One of the last productions under the supervision of Rocco Granata’s Cardinal Records was the album “Madrigals” from 1977.
