Loha Prasat or Metal Castle Wat Ratchanatdaram Worawihan Royal Temple Bangkok Thailand

Wat Ratchanatdaram Worawihan (Loha Prasat) Prasat is conveniently located to Wat Saket and Wat Suthat, within walking distance. Known as the ’metal castle’, it is said to be similar to other temples in Sri Lanka and India. The construction of Loha Prasat began during the reign of Rama III but it was finally completed during the reign of Rama V. The castle is a building with 7 floors and 37 metal spires which indicate 37 virtues toward enlightenment in Buddhist belief. In the middle, there is a hollow area with a spiral staircase leading to a view point on the top. The stairway ends on the roof of the fourth tower. Here there is an outside walkway from which you can see the Golden Mount across the street, as well as the park in front of the temple. From the walkway you can climb one last stairway to view the shrine at the top of the temple. Buddha’s relics are kept on top of the temple.
