Kahn’s Reggae Production Corner - Ep 1 : Reggae Theory & Drums
In this first episode of KRPC, Kahn talks about the difference between rock and reggae, the foundation of where the reggae beat comes from, and then begins making a drum beat in Logic Pro X.
He uses samples taken from a snare that Jah Servant recorded, and shows photos of how the snare was dampened, tuned, and the mic positioning for a snappy 80’s reggae snare. Kahn shows techniques on drum fills, EQing and compressing drums, setting up a drum bus, and finishes off with adding reverbs to sweeten the sound.
