Cyril Hovorun “Sobornost’ and the nature of the Church“ Кирилл Говорун «Соборность и природа Церкви»

This webinar is in Russian. Professor Cyril Hovorun presents on the Orthodox concept of sobornost’ (conciliarity), applying to it his ecclesiological methodology that he employed in his book The Scaffolds of the Church: Towards Poststructural Ecclesiology (Cascade books, 2017). According to this methodology, distinguishing between the nature and structures of the Church, sobornost’ is part of the nature of the Church, as he calls it the ‘DNA of the Church’. The webinars are hosted by the School of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Tarty within the framework of the research project “Orthodoxy as Solidarity: an examination of popular and conciliar Orthodoxy in Estonia during the long 20th century” (PI Irina Paert) funded by the Estonian Research Council. The webinar moderators are Irina Paert and Andrey Shishkov. Cyril Hovorun is Professor of Ecclesiology, International Relations and Ecumenism at the Stockholm School of Theology.
