Montreal’s Most Thrilling Attraction

The infamous Lachine Rapids of Montreal are a 3-mile long series of Class 5 rapids in the Saint Lawrence River made up of large year-round standing waves, ranking 2nd in North America for largest runnable rapids by total water volume (after the Colorado River). Historically, they were known for being extremely dangerous and un-passable to ships, and were the reason the French explorers chose to port nearby in 1535, later giving birth to the city of Montreal. Today, the rapids attract thrill seekers from around the world who are drawn to the many unique water sport activities it offers, including kayaking, river surfing, whitewater rafting and jet boating, all within a 10 minute ride of Downtown Montreal.
