This Week in Volcanoes; Tsunami Occurs at Hunga Tonga Volcano, Intermittent Activity at Kilauea

Right now, there are 50 volcanoes actively erupting on the planet. This week, the Hunga Tonga Hunga Ha’apai volcano in the nation of Tonga almost completely collapsed leading to a large tsunami. The collapse was associated with a plugged magma conduit and an unstable edifice, generating a 20 to 30 kilometer high eruption plume. In India, the Barren Island volcano produced a brief eruption which was picked up on satellite. Also, in Hawaii, the Kilauea volcano has been undergoing cycles of activity where lava effusion occurs for a few days, stops, then resumes again. This video will discuss these volcano related news stories, as told and analyzed by a volcanologist.
