Dream-Land (poetry by Edgar Allan Poe; music by Valentine Wolfe)

We return to the work of Edgar Allan Poe with this abbreviated version of a brand new song, Dream-Land. Paired with a fan-made video featuring an equally iconic work, The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari, both works explore the severing of the cord connecting the real and unreal. Out of space, out of time. That disconnect inspired us to feature a song lurching into life, appearing from a formless void, and definitely inspired by my (Braxton) love for the music of Opeth. We’ve also performed live soundtracks to The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. For both of us, the nightmarish and hallucinogenic emotions invoked by film perfectly connect with the words of the poem. And what do I mean by an abbreviated version? Poe aficionados will recognize we only set a portion of the lyrics.
