In 1979, the design team at Olivetti’s Advanced Technology Center in Cupertino, California started to build a real 16bit computer. At that same time, Zilog also released their first 16bit microprocessor the Z8000 series and Olivetti made the choice to use the Zilog Z8001 CPU instead of the Intel 8086.
