The inhabitants of the mountainous Lake Poopo in Bolivia were stranded. The only constant source of water was the Desaguadero River, but in the middle of the last century it changed its course. The flow of water stopped, and the lake and the fish quickly began to disappear. Local men, who did fishing for generations as their livelihood, had to look for different ways to feed their families.
