Harrington 1200 Ornament and Crime full tutorial. How hipsters play chords

Hipster jokes aside I like modules that help me make interesting chord progressions. The Harrington 1200 app in Ornament and Crime does exactly that; it makes interesting chord progressions for you and all you have to do is dial in some starting parameters and sending it clock triggers. Boom - instant mad keyboard skillz! Not so fast! First we need to go through how exactly it works, because on the surface it appears very complex. Harrington 1200 uses neo-Riemannian transforms, a complex branch of music theory which looks at chord progressions as a branch of geometry (to my best understanding). Luckily you don’t need a PhD in music theory to take advantage of this. In this video I explain how Harrington 1200 works, we wire up a basic patch to get started using the 4ms Spherical Wavetable Navigator as a 3 voice synth, and then I show you how to use the chord transforms to make progressions. Along the way you’ll see some tips and tricks, and then we’ll finish with an ambient jam using using Harrington 1200 a
