Thermometers (1953)

Wealdstone, Middlesex. Various shots of thermometers being made in a factory. Two men stretch tubes of molten glass taken from a furnace. Water is poured over the tubes. They are cut into sections and checked that the glass is not twisted. Merton, London. At a thermometer factory we see a woman at a table breaking the glass into small sections. Holes are bored into the ends by a flame so that the mercury bulb can be attached. The tubes are waxed and inscriptions are put on the glass in acid. Finished thermometers are checked and packed.
