Namazgah was constructed during the reign of the Bahmani Sultanate, which was a prominent medieval Muslim kingdom in the Deccan region of India. It was built in the year 1467 CE by the Bahmani ruler Mahmud Gawan, who was known for his contributions to architecture and education. The structure of Namazgah is simple yet elegant. It comprises an open courtyard with a raised platform at one end for the Imam (prayer leader) to stand and deliver the sermon. The courtyard is surrounded by low walls with arched openings. These openings serve as entry points for worshippers to gather and offer their prayers. During the festival of Eid, which marks the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, Muslims from the surrounding areas gather at Namazgah to perform the special congregational prayer called “Eid Salah“ or “Namaz-e-Eid.“ This prayer is offered as an expression of gratitude and celebration for the completion of Ramadan and is a significant social and religious event for the local Muslim community.
