CAT D10 Dozer Cylinder Rebuild | Part 2 | Making the New Barrel
This video is part 2 of rebuilding a Caterpillar D10R dozer blade tilt hydraulic cylinder. In this episode we are machining, welding and honing to make the new cylinder barrel. We start with machining a piece of 10 ¾” x 9 ¼” Unhoned steel tube to prep it for the head flange and barrel end cap. We then fit and metal core weld the head flange onto the new barrel before finish honing the internal diameter using our Delapena vertical honing machine. The barrel end is positioned on the barrel and tack welded in place. We then make up the barrel torque tube using a piece of hollow bar. We cut the length of hollow bar to size in our horizontal bandsaw and then set it up in our lathe. We turn down the outer diameter before preparing for welding by machining and boring each end of the tube. The torque tube is positioned on the barrel and tack welded in place. We then finish up with metal core welding the end cap and torque tube on to the barrel.
