Chance Peña - Montana. The Texas native behind viral hits “In My Room” and “i am not who I was” sings with a well of realness that has no bottom - and a sandpapery low end vocal register to match. Almost a decade ago, that same tool moved Adam Levine to select a teenage Chance on The Voice. And while the city of Tyler, his Lonestar hometown, is a far cry from the Hollywood pressure cooker, it’s the place where young Chance sharpened his craft by gigging at local “bars, restaurants, and BBQ joints.” If anything, the TV audience was probably a relief, an affirmation. In the following years, Chance doubled down on penchant for vulnerability, introspection, and reflection. “Up, Up & Away” was the first of many plaintive hits that would shape his career. A natural in front of the camera, he’s found a home on social media. If Ben Howard and, more recently, George Ezra had launched their careers in 2024, they probably would have paired their tracks with moody vistas on TikTok like Chance has. “I want my music to be a safe place for people to know they’re not alone in what they’re feeling,” he explained to us during our DSCVR shoot. From his numbers to his aura, Chance was a pretty easy choice for our series and this performance of his as yet unreleased track “Montana” is sure to get fans excited for his upcoming album.
