The global economic landscape is rapidly changing, and African countries are keen to position themselves strategically to take advantage of emerging opportunities. The Brics bloc is growing increasingly enticing for several African nations whose leading politicians and top analysts believe the bloc to be a formidable superpower capable of challenging US hegemony, as well as playing a dominant role in global affairs as the debate over UN reforms and a new international order emerges.
Tunisia is one of the nations that is exploring the possibility of joining the BRICS bloc of emerging economies that includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, stating that joining the bloc will offer economic opportunities for the North African country.
According to Tunisian officials, Brics would provide a diplomatic venue outside of the dominant Western paradigm for new kinds of international collaboration based on win-win partnerships. Jemai Guesmi, an International Affairs Analyst stated that “Tunisia could apply to join BRICS this year because this alliance respects all its partners and does not impose its will on developing countries. The Tunisian state is disillusioned by the Western mainstream bloc. Joining BRICS is a smart political move because it’s a promising bloc which offers a successful partnership on all levels’’
