Almost immediately after the start of movement, the star extractor, located in the rear end of the drum, stopped, while the drum itself continued to move forward, and the spent cartridges, being extracted from the chambers of the drum by the extractor, simply fell out. New cartridges were inserted into the drum with the extractor extended, and since the cartridge with the bullet was longer than the empty cartridge case, they freely reached the chambers.
