Introducing The Fairmount Trio, a Portland-based ensemble established in 2020, that is dedicated to cultivating an appreciation for chamber music performance and collaboration. Comprising violinist Hanu Nahm, cellist Li-Hsin Huang, and pianist Stella Nahm, the Fairmount Trio has been playing in numerous venues across Portland, delivering a mixture of captivating renditions of timeless classics and contemporary masterpieces.

Hanu Nahm, Violinist
Hanu Nahm is currently an undergraduate student at the University of Washington, At the U.W., he is pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance. He currently studies under the guidance of Professor Rachel Lee Priday and has previously been taught by Carol Sindell and Jessica Lambert. Last winter, he was a finalist in the U.W. Strings Concerto Competition, and has won multiple scholarships from the U.W. School of Music. He currently plays in the U.W. Symphonic Orchestra as principal second and partakes in multiple string quartets and other chamber ensembles. In the last few years, Hanu has performed as a soloist with the Oregon Mozart Players in Eugene and the Jewish Community Orchestra in Portland, and was a runner up for the 2022 MTNA Competition. He is also an alumnus of the Portland Youth Philharmonic, having played in PYP for five years. In 2022, Hanu studied for a year abroad in Germany through the Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange Scholarship. While serving as a youth ambassador in Germany, he won several competitions, including the 7th Annual Tchaikovsky Competition in Hamburg and the Instrumental International Competition in Kiel. After his undergraduate education, Hanu hopes to pursue a medicinal career while continuing to play the violin at a professional level.
Li-Hsin Huang, Cellist
Li-Hsin Huang is an active cellist in the Portland area. In addition to performing, Li-Hsin is passionate about music education and offers cello and piano lessons at her home studio in Cedar Mill. She earned her Master’s degree and Doctorate of Musical Arts in cello performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). She also studied chamber music as her cognate under renowned professors such as the Ariel Quartet, Sandra Rivers, and Yehuda Hanani. She won the cello concerto competition at CCM and performed the Elgar Cello Concerto with the CCM Concert Orchestra. Li-Hsin also participated in several masterclasses with Wen-Shin Yang, Hans Jørgen Jensen, Vivian Hornik Weilerstein, Paul Katz, and Steven Isserlis. Her mentors include Ilya Finkelshteyn, principal cellist of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and Amit Even-Tov, cellist of the Ariel Quartet.
Stella Nahm, Pianist
Stella Nahm is a professional pianist, chamber musician, and respectful teacher in the NW Pacific area. She began her serious piano studies at the most prestigious institution in music, arts, and dance in Seoul, Korea at a young age. She graduated with Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor in piano performance at Temple University and earned her Doctorate of Musical Arts in piano performance at the University of Maryland at College Park. She also had extensive chamber music study collaborating with instrumentalists and singers under the renowned professors including Santiago Rodriguez, Cleveland Page and Rita Sloan. She was on the faculty of Anne Arundel Community College in Annapolis, Maryland before she moved to Oregon. Since then, Stella has been associated with many music schools where she has served as an accompanist and collaborating pianist with college students and faculties. Nahm has performed widely as a soloist and chamber musician throughout her life. She has abundant teaching experiences on piano, chamber music, and music theory. She is a member of Music Teachers National Association and her students have won numerous competitions through Oregon Music Teachers Association.
