An experiment in polishing granite with primitive technology, which is still the same way modern technology does it except with machines instead of by hand.
How to make a polishing paste the most primitive way.
The plate I am polishing is from a previous experiment in granite and primitive techniques. Where I took two rough granite surfaces and ground them down to “precision“ flatness in a reliatively short time.
Experiments in Ancient Technology- Rough faced Granite to “Precision“ flatness.
This video also contains details on how precision flatness is achieved in modern times. Also the reality of famous sites such as Pume Punku and the Saqqara Serapeum which are often described as “high precision faltness requiring advanced technology“ which is easily achieved with primitive tools as found and depicted in ancient records. Grinding stones together using an abrasive, the same way it has been done thorugh history and still now except machines are used where good old fashioned hand labour was the key.
Lost Ancient High Technology of Stone Cores: Part 3 - Polished Surfaces of Core 7
This video is about granite cores and the much overhyped Core 7, the video contains a section explaining abrasives and how they relate to polishing stones and metal.
A very fine abrasive is used to polish where as coarse abrasives are used for grinding. Whether grinding or polishing the principle is exactly the same, they cut (scratch) the stone. Coarse grains leave deeper scratches whilst fine polishing grit scratches so finely it creates a polished surface.
Again nothing has changed from ancient times except machines are used instead of gold old fashioned labour.
LOST HIGH ANCIENT at Saqqara (Not Precision Machined?)
Examination of the Saqqara Serapeum and the many “facts“ reported about them such as precision corners and flatness. Which are just limiited examination are seen to be anything but factual.
This relates to the creation of flat surfaces and the lack of precision flatness that can easily be achieved by primitive methods. The makers of the Saqqara Serapeum coffers, even by hand tooling standards, did not do a very good job of making the coffers.
Also info on the difference between honed granite surfaces vs polished surfaces vs sealed surfaces. A mirror like reflection can be achieved without a genuine polish, by bringing a surface to a honed level then applying a sealer/enhancer it has the appearance of a polish but it’s actually the sealer much like a veneer on wood makes it shiny and reflective.
