It provides a simple and a raid method of diluting the sample by mechanical means. As the loop is stretched across the agar surface more and more bacteria are separated until the required bacteria are deposited on the agar. After inoculation, the area at the beginning of the streak pattern with show confluent growth while the area at the end of the pattern should show the discreet colonies.
