Sydney issues spider warning: Funnel-web’s emerge after heavy rainfall

Sydney residents have been issued a new spider warning after flooding across New South Wales is expected to cause funnel webs to come out of hiding in search of higher ground. Australian Reptile Park Head of Reptiles and Spiders Dan Rumsey said the rain and warm weather would “flush” funnel web spiders out in search of safer conditions. “They’re potentially one of the most dangerous spiders on the planet not just here in Australia,“ he said. Mr Rumsey pointed out while no one had been killed in Australia by a funnel web in a very long time, it was important to be vigilant.
