Yasuo Sugibayashi “Relic“ (Mimic, 1982)

Pretty rare 7“ follow up to the godhead Mask of the Imperial Family LP. Same top of its class thesis on the bedroom electronics thing as the two earlier Mimic titles, but with much more emphasis placed on acoustic sources, giving the whole EP a really strange folk bent that seems like it would clash with the pulsing, alien sound bed, but actually ends up complimenting very well. Something that always gets cited (almost to the point of cliché) in discussions of legendary underground units like Anima Sound or Cromagnon is their rare ability to make records that, while being very experimental, manage to temper the often times ’chilly’ aspects of the avant garde with a distinctly (although difficult to qualify) ’human’ element. I think the same could be said for all of Yasuo’s early work, and to no greater an extent than on this excellent EP.  /// Ripped direct from original vinyl. See Discogs link f
