Want to support this channel and help us preserve old films? Visit Visit our website These vintage 1980s TV commercials for Swift’s Butterball Premium Turkey promote the peace of mind that comes with purchasing a premium turkey, with the tagline “Years of perfect holiday dinners wrapped up in a name.“ Despite the name, Butterball turkeys do not contain any butter -- but they are basted in a mixture of water, salt, sugar, natural flavor and spice. The name Butterball was originally registered in 1940, by Ada Walker of Wyoming, Ohio. Leo Peters purchased the trademark and licensed the name to Swift and Co. for 10 years before selling it in the 1960s to Swift, which was acquired by ConAgra in 1990. The latest incarnation of the company, Butterball LLC, currently sells over one billion pounds of turkey a year.
