Streptococcus, Streptobacillus, Binary fission

A coccus (plural cocci) is any bacterium or archaeon that has a spherical, ovoid, or generally round shape. Streptococcus is a genus of gram-positive coccus, or spherical bacteria, that belongs to the family Streptococcaceae, within the order Lactobacillales, in the phylum Firmicutes. Cell division in streptococci occurs along a single axis, so as they grow they tend to form pairs or chains that may appear bent or twisted. A bacillus (plural bacilli) or bacilliform bacterium is a rod-shaped bacterium or archaeon. Bacilli are found in many different taxonomic groups of bacteria. However, the name Bacillus, capitalized and italicized, refers to a specific genus of bacteria. Streptobacillus is a genus of aerobic, gram-negative facultative anaerobe bacteria, which grow in culture as rods in chains. #Streptococcus #Streptobacillus #binaryFission
