Reception of naval VC in Old Kent Road. Location, South London. Ceremony for Naval V.C. hero. Able Seaman Albert Edward McKenzie, VC. McKenzie received his VC for his part in the Zeebrugge raid, where he served in HMS Vindictive. He was selected by his shipmates for the award, which was presented by the King in the summer of 1918. Sadly, McKenzie caught influenza in the epidemic which swept across Europe at the end of the Great War. He died at Chatham Naval Hospital in October 1918 aged nineteen.
