NOBUSHI virtuosos bring their unique style and character to the performance of traditional Japanese drum music, fully justifying their name. Taiko means “big drum“ in Japanese and nobushi means “wild samurai“, and that’s exactly how they perform - with full dedication, fantastic power and magnificent plasticity. The spirit of the samurai era, reproduced by the unique sound of drums, which for hundreds of years have been used in Shinto rituals and prayers, as well as to raise morale before battles, allows the audience to feel the energy, freedom and powerful emotional uplift. This amazing performance is not taught in music schools, the skill is handed down from generation to generation by the people of Kyushu, the south-westernmost of Japan’s four main islands. In 2023, the taiko drumming group “Nobushi“ will celebrate its 25th anniversary. The group was established in 1998 and is based in Fukuoka. It gives about 80 concerts a year, not only in Japan but also around the world, both in stadiums and theatres
