Ante Jerkunica (Sparafucile) last seen at Seattle Opera in “The Magic Flute“

This August, Croatian bass Ante Jerkunica portrays the heartless assassin Sparafucile in Verdi’s moody melodrama. Jerkunica made his Seattle Opera debut as the enigmatic but (mostly) benevolent priest Sarastro in our May 2017 revival of Mozart’s “Magic Flute“ - which featured memorable costumes by Zandra Rhodes. In this excerpt from the aria “In diesen heil’gen Hallen,“ Sarastro assures a conflicted Pamina that revenge and cruelty have no place in his domain.
