Unimagining General Intelligence
This presentation focuses on a single question, how can we think about the future of artificial general intelligence if the very image of general intelligence is bounded by the contingently constituted particularity of our transcendental structures, that is, necessary constraints or ‘conditions of possibility’ of imagination and thinking in the broadest possible sense? To tackle this question, I will attempt to approach it from two different directions, one originating from the deep tradition of skepticism (the labor of investigation) and the other from transcendental philosophy. By approaching the question of artificial general intelligence from these two directions, I will argue that what it takes to imagine the artificial general intelligence is exactly what it takes to redefine im
