In July 2011, Remote Control Productions came to MIM to record samples of several instruments in our collection for use in film scores. Among them was our famous Octobass, as played by renowned double bassist and teacher Nico Abondolo. Nico was gracious enough to allow us to film him getting familiar with the instrument before the recording session started, and to share his observations about this unique piece of music history.
The samples from this recording session can be heard on James Newton Howard’s score for “The Hunger Games“. For best results, turn up your subs!
This octobass was made by Mr. Antonio Dattis.
