It was first sung by Pandit V. D. Paluskar for a record and was later adapted by Sabarmati Ashram into the song that we all know. In the last 10 years, there has been a lot of online deliberation that the actual ’original lyrics’ of Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram are very different from the popular Sabarmati song and has 6 lines that describe the beautiful idol of Ram and sings His praises. However, the source of these 6 lines remains a mystery because it does not feature anywhere in Shri Lakshmanacharya’s Nama Ramayan nor in any other text. This latest grand new song RAGHUPATI RAAGHAVA is a combination of a special selection of lines from the Nama Ramayan along with the ’original lyrics’. This creation has been conceptualized, compiled and composed in Raag Miya Malhar by Music Director Ruupa Raaman and sung by the internationally renowned Carnatic Music Legend, Padma Shri Sangeeta Kalanidhi Chevalier Smt. Aruna Sairam in their first musical collaboration together. This song has also been blessed by the finest of musicians who came together to create this musical offering to the lotus feet of Sri Rama. In addition to her performances in India, Aruna has taken Carnatic music to the global arena, at prestigious venues including the Royal Albert Hall and Carnegie Hall. Currently Vice Chairperson of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, Delhi, she was appointed in 2008 by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu as Advisor to the Department of Culture. Aruna works towards the musical education of underprivileged students, through the Nadayogam Trust, which she founded in 2011.
