The Am186 is a high-performance 16-bit microcontroller with built in USB support, and is also Intel 80186 compatible in terms of overall functionality. The 80186 was first introduced by Intel back in 1982, with an initial clock rate of 6MHz. In comparison, this Am186 part operated at 40MHz, with a 50MHz model also available. This updated implementation also has USB as mentioned earlier, which was not a feature present on the original part.
