Erfurt Christmas Market - One of the loveliest in the whole of Germany 🇩🇪

The city of Erfurt is the largest city and capital of the state of Thuringia in Germany. The main Christmas market is held on the huge square below the Cathedral church of St Mary and the Church of St Severus. Between the two great churches the Cathedral steps rise majestically. Some summers ago we watched I Pagliacci on those steps on a wonderfully warm evening. Erfurt was one of the first former East German cities we visited after the fall of the Iron Curtain. It is filled with wonderful historic buildings. A few years ago we decided to spend a couple of days in the run up to Christmas.
