The title of the track is an Irish word meaning Druids. It is derived from the Old Irish druï, druí (“druid; magician, wizard, diviner”), which in turn is from Proto-Celtic *dru-wid- (literally “tree-knower”), which is from Proto-Indo-European *dóru (“tree”) *weyd- (“to know”). Druids play a prominent role in Irish folklore, generally serving lords and kings as high ranking priest-counsellors with the gift of prophecy and other mystical abilities. Druids were religious leaders as well as legal authorities, adjudicators, lore-keepers, medical professionals and political advisors. Druids left no written accounts so what little we know is often derived from the writings of those opposed to them. Are Druids pagans? Many forms of modern Druidry are modern Pagan religions, although most of the earliest modern Druids identified as Christians. Originating in Britain during the 18th century, modern Druidry was originally a cultural movement and only gained a religious or spiritual connotation later in the 19th century.
