Miyama: Traditional Japanese thatched roof village

While the Kayabuki no Sato at Shirakawa-go is much more well known, if you’re around the Kyoto area, Miyama has its very own example of these traditional country houses. The village is a little hard to get to via public transport and its recommended you go by car, but the scenery and the drive up there is stunning.
