China-built bypass section opens to traffic in Serbian capital, ease the traffic at the city center
A new bypass section built by a Chinese enterprise was opened to traffic in the Serbian capital of Belgrade on Wednesday, which will help ease traffic from Belgrade’s main highways.
At the opening ceremony of the final section of the Belgrade bypass from the Strazevica tunnel to the Bubanj Potok interchange, Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic said that the road would ease the traffic pressure at the city center, which has plagued the capital since the early 1970s.
“Now, 30 years later, our dream has come true. From now on there will be no transit trucks entering the downtown area of Belgrade and causing congestion on city roads. From now on you can travel around Belgrade quickly and safely. Serbia’s development has benefited from China’s friendly support,“ he said.
The newly opened section is the last part of a core section of the Belgrade bypass constructed by the Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina) that includes 22 bridges, four tunnels and two large overpasses, located in the southern suburbs of the city.
Now open to traffic, the new section will not only greatly ease the traffic pressure in the city center and facilitate people’s travel, but also promote local employment and boost the economic development of Serbia.
