Matsa Ranga is an Amsterdam based trio with roots from the port cities of Odessa, Rotterdam and Patra, playing urban folk music, specialising in Greek rebetika and Russian songs from the ports of the 1930’s.

O Amerikanos is a Greek rebetiko song (1935) written by Yakovos Modanaris, and it tells the story of five magkes (tough guys/spivs) who set up an unwitting American visitor to the port of Piraeus to the well known “mushroom“ (manitari or manita) trick.
