Pull up a chair, and join our family as we spend a cosy weekend at my brother’s home: two days of warmth and fire, cast-iron cooking, slow family time and lots of delicious food, all around ’The Heart of the Home’: one of our Homewood Heritage stoves. This was filmed in mid-2020 (if you are wondering why the children look younger!), during the New Zealand winter. At the time, I was planning to create a bunch of useful videos about our stoves out of it all: the best way to light a fire/how to maintain and care for a stove/how to best run it for baking - that sort of thing, but unfortunately some sound recording issues made it unfit for purpose, and I have been sitting on the footage ever since, wondering what to do with it.
This video is the end result, with me deciding to use the salvaged footage as backdrop to an extended voiceover that tries to communicate the very special nature of a cast iron wood range and the positive influence it can have in cultivating a more intentional and gro
