Shoigu briefs Putin on capture of strategic town of Maryinka near Donetsk in E. Ukraine

Russian forces have gained full control of Maryinka, a town in eastern Ukraine, Russian defence minister Sergei Shoigu told President Vladimir Putin He said that the capture of the town would reduce ‘the defence capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and gives us additional opportunities for further actions’. It’s considered one of Russia’s most significant gains since the capture of Bakhmut in May. Putin congratulated Shoigu. Kyiv’s forces have made little progress in the counteroffensive in the face of entrenched Russian resistance.
