🌾 LITHA! 🌾 (English Below) Brevemente vi raccontiamo la storia di Litha. 🌾 Nato nel 2018, come brano dedicato ad una figura femminile del folklore sia italiano che europeo e perciò destinato ad avere un altro titolo, si è trasformato in qualcos’altro qualche settimana fa. Più lo suonavamo, più lo ascoltavamo e più ci portava alla mente l’immagine del Solstizio d’Estate: il tramonto del sole, il suo passaggio attraverso i vari siti megalitici sparsi sul globo terrestre ed il suo sorgere al mattino. Una visione chiara, nitida che ci ha portati alla decisione di farlo diventare il brano di accompagnamento di questo momento magico dell’anno. Un brano che al primo ascolto sembra malinconico, ma che al suo interno contiene tutta una vasta gamma di sensazioni... 🌾 Perchè il titolo Litha? Come molti di voi sanno, questo è il nome dell’antica dea sassone del grano che, nella cultura mediterranea, trovava corrispondenza in Demetra e Cerere e Demetra era molto venerata dai Messapi che hanno abitato il Salento. La prima menzione di questo sabbat è stata fatta da un monaco anglosassone, Beda il Venerabile, nel suo De temporum ratione con il nome di “Junius Lida“. Presso i romani invece, prima dell’avvento del culto maschile di Giano, veniva venerata la dea Cardea anch’essa associata al solstizio, al grano, alle soglie e ai cardini (facendo riferimento ai passaggi solstiziali dell’anno). Insomma, abbiamo scoperto che il solstizio è sì dedicato al principio maschile del Sole ma è altrettanto dedicato al principio femminile della Terra e della fertilità. 🌾 La decisione di girare il video, che ricordiamo è al 100% autoprodotto, è stata naturale. Ci siamo trovati in Salento per un break di una settimana e nel mentre ci siamo recati in uno dei nostri luoghi preferiti per dar vita alle riprese. Abbiamo ringraziato gli antenati che lì si riunivano per i loro rituali e celebrato simbolicamente ed anticipatamente questo momento con loro (il video è stato girato il 13). Abbiamo anche incontrato un’anima antica che, come noi, era lì per godere della pace e della tranquillità di quell’area sacra, come lui stesso l’ha definita. It turned into something else a few weeks ago. The more we played it, the more we listened to it and the more the Summer Solstice image brought to mind: the setting of the sun, its passage through the megalithic sites scattered on the earth and its rising in the morning. A clear vision that led us to the decision to make it the accompanying passage of this magical moment of the year. A song that seems melancholy on first listen, but that contains a whole range of sensations... 🌾 Why the title Litha? As many of you know, this is the name of the ancient Saxon Goddess of wheat who, in the Mediterranean cultures, found correspondence in Demetra and Cerere and Demetra was highly revered by the Messapians people who lived in Salento. The first mention of this sabbat was made by an Anglo-Saxon monk, Beda the Venerable, in his “De temporum ratione“ with the name “Junius Lida“. Among the Romans instead, before the advent of the male cult of Janus, the Goddess Cardea was also venerated, also associated with the solstice, wheat, thresholds and hinges (referring to the solstice passages of the year). In short, we discovered that the solstice is dedicated to the male principle of the Sun but is equally dedicated to the female principle of the Mother Earth and fertility. 🌾 The decision to shoot the video, we remember that it is 100% self-produced, was very natural. We met in Salento for a week’s break and in the meantime we went to visit one of our favorite places to start shooting. We thanked the ancestors who gathered there for their rituals and we celebrated symbolically and in advance this moment with them (the video was shot on the 13th). We also met an ancient soul who, like us, was there to enjoy the peace and tranquility of that sacred area, as he himself called it. All this and much more is Litha.
