This design is a new product from an artist named HERI.
See below for a description of this design.
This is a Gear Shelf. I made it in the class ’Digital3D Professional Drawing’ by Choi Sung-kwon at Hongik University in 2023. This class is connected with Fab365.
The goal was to develop an item for Fab365. It was difficult for me because I didn’t know what to make. However, I was able to decide on the item by talking to the teacher and the team members who were in class together. As a result, I thought It would be good to make a shelf where figures could be displayed, so I decided to make a display shelf. I chose the concept of the item as Gear because the mechanical design is popular in Fab365.
At first, it was just a shelf. However, I developed it to be used as a case by reflecting Fab365’s idea that it would be good to keep figures in it.
The school supported high-performance printing, so it was easy to print prototypes. So I was able to make a high-quality item without spending any extra money.
When the lid of the case is opened, it becomes a shelf. To keep the figure standing stably, the angle of the shelf had to be fixed at 180 degrees. For this, I modified the hinge structure several times. I also designed a Prop to maintain 180 degrees on the shelf when it was placed on the table.
Also, I visited Fab365 and received feedback in person on the item. They gave specific feedback on the weight, output time, and user experience of the Gear shelf. Also, it told me how to do 3D printing well. I was able to find a problem that I had not thought of by myself. I was able to further improve the quality of the product through feedback from experts.
The Gear Shelf I initially finished is heavy. However, After receiving feedback from Fab365, I reduced its weight with shorter print times and more convenient use, and I made several holes to make the product light.
There are precautions when assembling this design.
1. Assemble the hinge of the main body Before Assembling the back plate.
2. If you want to secure it with screws, I recommend to secure the back plate to the wall and then assemble the main body.
3. If the backplate does not fit well into the main body, trim the protrusion of the main body a little. If it’s loose when assembled, use glue.
Please check the video for more information.
I’m happy to introduce the products designed in the class through Fab365.
Please enjoy using it.
