This week we restored a Dietz Lantern. This was great fun to do and one of our quicker restorations.

Since 1840 Dietz kerosene lanterns have been used on boats at sea, in the covered wagons of pioneers heading west, for railroad signals, and by farmers finding their way to the barn in a snowstorm.

At age 22, in 1840, Robert Edwin Dietz bought a small lamp and oil shop in Brooklyn, NY. Robert, with his brother William, called the company Dietz, Brother, and Company.
