MSC Sinfonia : Cut In Half For Renaissance Programme

In December 2013, MSC Cruises unveiled the € 200 million Renaissance Programme, an ambitious two-year operation to take fourshipsof our 12-strong fleet back to the shipyard and back to the drawing board. Under Renaissance, MSC Armonia, MSC Lirica, MSC Sinfonia and MSC Opera will be lengthened by around 24 metres, and an array of key spaces, such as balcony cabins, restaurants and bars, sundecks and entertainment areas will be overhauled and enhanced. This enormous feat of engineering, entrusted to world-class Italian shipbuilders Fincantieri, will leave these four stunning shipsresized and revitalized. The Sinfonia is the second of four MSC ships built between 2003 and 2005 to undergo the complicated process at the Fincantieri shipyard in Palermo, Italy. To do it, MSC had a matching section of the ship pre-built. The 14,000-ton bow of the ship was sliced off and slowly advanced about 30 yards from the stern so the new section could be moved into position and welded in place. Thousands of wires, pipes, and air returns running through the ship had to be reconnected as well. As of completion, Sinfonia is able to carry an additional 480 guests in 193 new cabins. The ship has 79 new inside cabins, 82 new outside cabins and 92 extra balcony cabins, of which 32 are new and 60 are converted from existing outside cabins. Another 59 new crew cabins were built and lifeboats were added with capacity for 500 more people. At the same time, MSC added a new library and music lounges, more shops and spa treatment rooms, redesigned restaurants and a new water spray park on the pool deck with waterfalls and slides. New partnerships with toy and game makers will put Chicco and LEGO products in the children’s play areas. Sinfonia will sail in northern Europe this summer on seven night itineraries.
