Researchers grow ’mini kidneys’ using stem cells to help develop possible treatments

Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) causes cysts to grow in the kidney and reduces its function, which could eventually lead to kidney failure. Currently, there is no effective drug in Singapore that can stop the cysts from growing. Researchers at Nanyang Technological University have grown kidney organoids, or “mini kidneys“, using stem cells to help them better understand kidney diseases and develop possible treatments.
