Myringotomy on my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel for Primary Secretory Otitis Media
Some Cavalier King Charles Spaniels can have a condition arise called Primary Secrectory Otitis Media (PSOM). This is where the middle ear fails to drain properly and can fill with mucous and other material. The condition can cause deafness and terrible pain due to the ear being blocked and internal pressure.
There is a simple surgery called a Myringotomy that can be performed on the dogs to flush out their ears. My Cavalier Baylee has had this done twice. This video shows one of her ears being flushed.
Anyone wishing to know more about this condition can read about it at I am not affiliated with that site.
If anyone watching has a Cavalier suspected of having this condition and you live in Washington state, then I highly recommend the Animal Skin & Allergy Center in Lynnwood for this procedure. That is where Baylee had hers done. I am only a customer of theirs pleased with the results.
