RItorno ad Algeri

Combines documentary footage shot by Pontecorvo and his son during a 1992 visit to Algiers with an interview Pontecorvo made for Italian television the same year, shortly after President Mohammed Boudiaf’s assassination. Considers what people’s lives are like thirty years on from independence, the economic problems faced by Algeria, the rise of Islamic fundamentalism, and the government’s decision to cancel the second round of elections after the Islamic Salvation Front did well in the polls.
