President Xi urges officials to prevent accidents and protect people’s safety

Chinese President Xi Jinping has asked government officials to prevent accidents and protect people’s lives after a forest fire in southwest China’s Sichuan Province killed 19 people, including 18 firefighters. Videos posted on social media show the city of Xichang blanketed by smoke. The fire initially started at a farm and then spread to nearby mountains because of strong winds.
